Welcome to Menstrual Hygiene Tips 101

  • Wear lightweight, breathable clothing – allow air to circulate.
For example, wear cotton underwear. It is the best breathable fabric and can help avoid irritation and prevent bacterial growth. This can help with your overall menstrual health.

  • Drink lots of water
Staying hydrated can help your energy levels, headaches, reduce odor, avoid fatigue, reduce bloating, and lessen cramps.

  • Track and monitor your period
This will help determine where you’re at and in what phase. It will also allow you to track any symptoms or potential irregularities regarding your overall menstrual health.

  • Try to avoid having intercourse while menstruating
This can lead to a bacterial overgrowth for you and/ or your partner. It can cause yeast infections, UTIs, and more.

  • Use unscented hygiene products
This can throw off your PH balance and disrupt your hormones.

  • Have a steady and restful sleep schedule
This can help regulate your hormones and overall help balance your menstrual health.

  • Avoid sleeping in Tampons
It is rare but wearing a tampon for too long can cause Toxic shock syndrome. Instead choose a menstrual cup, disc or a pad.

  • Change your tampons AT LEAST every 3-4 hours never exceeding 8 hours
Regardless of how light your flow is, as mentioned above, long periods of time with the same tampon can not only disrupt your menstrual health but also lead to TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome).

  • Change pads AT LEAST every 3-4 hours
Toxic Shock Syndrome is not associated with wearing a pad but for the sake of your menstrual health and menstrual hygiene, sitting in a pad all day is not ideal: maximum 8 hours.

  • Invest in period underwear for sleep
They are breathable, comfortable and most importantly safe!

  • Choose menstrual products that suit your flow and lifestyle
Preferably something like a menstrual cup. They are the best menstrual product for menstrual hygiene.

  • Wash your private area daily
    Ensure to use fragrance-free products.

  • Probiotics support vaginal health
They promote healthy bacteria and can reduce odors and infections.

  • Unscented feminine wipes
Keep a small pack with you throughout the day, this can help decrease odor and build-up and keep you feeling fresh all day!
